The Session

The Session of the Due West ARP Church consists of the pastor, a teaching elder, who serves as Moderator of the Session and ruling elders, one of whom is elected as the Vice-Moderator and one elected as Clerk of the Session. The congregation elects three elders each year to four-year terms of office.

The Session is the lowest court of the ARP Denomination.  A Session is charged with the spiritual oversight and governance of the congregation within the jurisdiction of a Presbytery. Elders also have pastoral responsibilities to the congregation.  The Session shall plan, organize and administer programs designed to enable the congregation to carry out its mission of God in Christ’s Church by word and deed.

The Due West ARP Session has six standing committees, each chaired by an Elder. The remaining members of these committees are representatives from Women’s Ministries, and the Diaconate. The standing committees are: Worship, Evangelism and Missions, College Outreach, Christian Education, Spiritual Care and Stewardship.

The Diaconate

The Diaconate of Due West ARP Church is composed of nine members, each elected for a three-year term. Deacons elect a chairman and a secretary for one-year terms, beginning in January.

The deacons are responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the church, and for maintaining the church building, grounds and the manse.

They supervise the church custodian and work closely with the Cemetery Association.

The deacons also make arrangements for special events at the church (special programs, weddings, funerals, and suppers, etc.).

The Chairman of the Diaconate appoints a deacon to serve on each Session Committee. Each deacon also serves on two or more Diaconate Committees.
